Stills from Endure, 2016

Around the U.S. presidential election in 2016, I prayed in public on the streets of Washington DC. Part protest and part lesson in endurance for myself, the work engages my role of not only being an artist, but also a citizen. Drawing connection between the personal and political, the performance poses questions like: What does it mean to use the body both as the medium for protest and for the body to be the site for protest? What happens when a deeply personal and sacred practice is forced into the public realm?
